How to Create a Rainbow Finger Paint Butterfly Craft

Step 1. Fold Paper

Fold white paper in half horizontally.

Step 2. Set up Paint

Pour a little of each color of the rainbow on the paper in different spots on one half of the paper. An apron and some plastic to cover your workspace would be a good idea.

Step 3. Paint

Finger paint using several different colors. Let them paint but no long enough to make mud.

Step 4. Fold & Press

Fold the paper together and press together. Then unfold the paper carefully. Let paint dry.

Step 5. Butterfly

Draw a butterfly shape using a pen and cut out. For toddlers and younger children without the scissor or drawing skills the adult will need to do this step.

You can have the child add a black body. You can also talk about symmetry and a line of symmetry. A line of symmetry is  the imaginary line where you could fold the image and have both halves match exactly. A line of symmetry is also know as reflection symmetry.
