I found these beads to make make a crochet crochet project and decided to make a colorful Christmas Ornament.

Pony beads are easy to find and colorful with large holes so they work great for a weaving project. These large beads are easy for small fingers to pick up and great for a fine motor skills.

Simple Bead Paper Plate Christmas Ornament Craft to Make

Supplies

Small paper plate
Paint / Paint brush or crayons or markers
Scissors; safety scissors for kids
Hole Punch
Pony Beads in red, gold, and green and/or star beads in blue and white
Simply Soft Party Yarn in red and white
tapestry or yarn needle

Step 1. Color

Paint or color the plate with markers or paint. Let dry.

Step 2. Holes

Using either a hole punch or sharp pencil punch holes around the edge of the plate. Make sure to keep far enough away from the edge to not tear the plate. For younger children, do the punching for them.

Step 3. Weave

Put yarn through one of the holes and tie it. Put some beads on the yarn and then put it through a hole on the other side of the ornament, front to back. Then from the back on the other side of the ornament go through another hole.

Weave the yarn with the beads under and over the other yarn. Repeat until you have filled all the holes. Cut the yarn and knot.

You can use a blunt needle known as a tapestry or yarn needle to help with the weaving.
